This wiki is constantly being updated with guides, plugins and other items linked to the use and development of ATBar.

ATbar has been created as an open-source, cross-browser toolbar to help users customise the way they view and interact with web pages. The concept behind ATbar is simple: One toolbar to provide all of the functionality you would usually achieve through the use of different settings or products.

ATbar is free and allows you to change the look and feel of webpages, have text read aloud and spell check forms. It is a simple tool which is available for most popular browsers. There are three versions of the ATbar toolbar.

The '''Word Prediction''' plugin uses the [http://www.aitype.com/ A.I.Type] service to predict the most likely next words when typing into input boxes such as forms and search boxes.

==Plugin Information==

==Step-by-step==

#Launch ATbar from your browser toolbar
#When you have a plain text box and need support with typing - start the word prediction by choosing the '''word prediction''' button and start typing.
#As you type you will begin to see words appearing below the box.
#Select the required word and continue typing.
#It is possible to stop the word prediction by selecting the blue arrow at the end of the ATbar. This will refresh the web page and you may need to reload ATbar.
==Points to Remember==

Select the word prediction button while writing in a plain text form. Suggestions are shown below the text-area after a pause. Note that this may not work with rich-text editors and if the edit box is very large you may find the words are some way down from where you are writing. There are also times when the prediction results are hidden from view with some web pages.

[http://www.aitype.com/ A.I.Type] has kindly provided this service for ATbar and it is in collaboration with their team that this service works. During heavy internet traffic or with a slow connection there maybe a very short delay in the service. Do please let us know if you have any problems via our [http://www.atbar.org/contact contact page] available from our main site.

It is important to select the text before you choose to use the text to speech. However, there are times on some webpages when it is impossible to select text especially if the text is an image. Some web pages do not allow the selection of text and if you are reading a PDF document within the browser ATbar will not at present be able to launch.

If you are working in a blog or online page with a rich text editor either use the text to speech offered try the ATbar text to speech in HTML / plain text mode as this can work well. Once again you need to highlight the text before selecting the text to speech icon.

There may be times when the response to the text to speech requirement is slower that we would wish. This can be due to internet traffic, your connection, the amount of text selected or perhaps other issues beyond our control.
The left hand image shows the Times Newspaper with its original font style and the right hand image shows the ATbar loaded with cursive script having been chosen to change the font style.

Page font settings allow the user to choose a preferred font as well as to increase the spacing between the lines of text.

The lines can be increased by any percentage but there are limits in terms of readability.

Once the settings have been chosen it is important to select 'apply' to see the changes. These changes will need to be selected for each web page but the settings stay in place in the dialog box so you just select the 'apply' button.

Not all web pages respond to the ATbar controls especially when there are fixed fonts and line spacing, Flash or text as graphics and other inaccessible text.

==Step-by-step==

#Launch ATbar from your browser toolbar
#Select the magnifier button with the plus (+) sign several times to increase the size of text. If text resizing makes the site unreadable you may wish to use your browser zoom feature (Ctrl+) to increase both the image and the text sizes but you may find greater amounts of horizontal and vertical scrolling will be required on a small screen.
#You can also just repeatedly select the magnifier button with the minus (-) sign to decrease the text size or return to the normal size. It may be easier to revert text to its original size by selecting the blue arrow at the end of the ATbar. This will refresh the web page and you may need to reload ATbar.

==Points to Remember==

Two images of the BBC website - the left hand one has the text enlarged with the use of ATbar and the right hand one is using the browser zoom.

Those websites that allow font sizes to increase can help with readability whilst not affecting the image size. This means there may not be so much scrolling as occurs when using the browser zoom features (Ctrl+ or Ctrl- and Ctrl +0 to reset the page) On some pages the images will dominate.

Most sites become unreadable when the increase font size magnifier menu button has been selected more than 10 times as words begin to overlap.

Not all web pages or sections of web pages work with the magnifier mode - they may have features using Flash or fonts that have a set size.

==Points to Remember==

The '''Spell Checking''' plugin checks spellings as you type. It provides a list of possible words with the option to ignore the answers. This information is fed back to the [[Spell checking service]] where possible new words are added to the spell checkers word list.
==Points to Remember==

Do please let us know if you have any problems via our [http://www.atbar.org/contact contact page] available from our main site.
